July 2019 - Blacksburg

Still having a great summer in the mountains around Blacksburg. I reconnected with my Aunt in Roanoke and 3 of my Uncles who live near Harrisonburg, VA. I also went on a lot of walks around campus and played some golf. Here are some pictures.

Golf with my friend Skip (and his wife Chris) (we were friends in Blacksburg in 1980) at the Blacksburg Country Club

Day trip to Harrisonburg to see 2 of my Uncles (Roger and David)

Virginia Tech golf course (the course used to be 18 holes – now only 9 holes – will have buildings on it in a few years). When I was a student it was $2 green fee to play all day (walking). Now it is $19 to play all day (walking) as a senior.

Draper Valley golf course (with my friend Skip – he beat me – and won money from me - for the second time here!)

Golf at Blacksburg Country Club (again with my friend Skip)

Golf with my friend Don at Auburn Hills golf course in Riner, VA

At the end of my time in Blacksburg, I decided to go on a hike to the Cascades Waterfall in Pembroke, Va. It is about 30 minutes west of Blacksburg and is a really nice hike 2 miles up a hill to a spectacular waterfall. The total hike is 4 miles and follows the Stoney Creek stream. Here are some pictures.

Here is a video of the waterfall
