June 2024 - Alaska - Stop 38 - Cruise Day 7

We sailed into College Fjord, which also has many glaciers, the next day of our cruise.  It is named College Fjord because a group of researchers from several colleges in the east explored the area and named many of the glaciers.  Some of the glacier names are Harvard, Wellesley, Yale, Bryn Mawr, and Barnard.  Here are some pictures, with some sea otters.

That's all from College Fjord.  Our cruise ends after we get to Whittier, AK, and then we have a land portion that lasts a few days and starts in Anchorage.

June 2024 - Alaska - Stop 38 - Cruise Day 6

Day 6 of our cruise was in Glacier Bay National Park.  We did not get off the ship, but we did get pretty close to the Marjorie Glacier, which was calving (ice chunks falling off) while we were there.  We also saw several other glaciers and small waterfalls.  It is a spectacular place.

It was very cold out on the deck where we spent most of the day seeing the glaciers.

On the way into the bay, we saw two mountain goats.

We also saw many sea otters and harbor seals on ice chunks and swimming around.

This is the Marjorie Glacier,

Carolyn is talking to the park ranger that came on board to answer questions.

Glacier Bay National Park was spectacular!  We are going to see more glaciers tomorrow in College Fjord.

June 2024 - Alaska - Stop 38 - Cruise Day 5

In Skagway, we got off the ship and walked through the town.

From the edge of the town, we hiked to Lower Reid Falls and through the Gold Rush Cemetery.  There are a lot of distinguished early people from the gold rush era of Skagway buried there.

The we returned to our ship for a relaxing evening.

That's all from Skagway.  Our adventures continue in the next post!
